A New Variety of Sedeveria spp. ‘Joy Tint’ Hybrid of Sedum and Echeveria

A new variety of Sedeveria spp. ‘Joy Tint’ was developed at Cactus & Succulent Research Institute, Gyeonggi-do A.R.E.S. in 2021. GSE14023-5 and Echeveria laui were crossed in 2017 and we got 2 seedlings from the combination. After pedigree selection from 2018 to 2020, 1 breeding lines, GSE17214-1 had been tested for specific characteristics from 2019 to 2021. The breeding line GSE17214-1 was finally selected in 2021 and named as ‘Joy Tint’. ‘Joy Tint’ has medium quantity of powder on the leaf surface and greyish green (RHS color chart, NN137B) base colored leaves which shows reddish brown color (176B) around the margins. The number of leaves per plant was 46.4 and leaf shape was obovate which showed the roundish end. Leaf size was 4.9cm long, 2.4cm wide and 4.9mm thick. It can produce 1.0 offshoots and 46.4 leaves per plant. ‘Joy Tint’ makes almost stemless and mostly rosette. In cultivation test it makes high acceptability among growers with attractive color and vigorous growing characteristics within 8 months from leaf bud suitable for rooting. Morphological characteristics of this variety can be maintained through vegetative propagation.
