Fragrant Pattern Analysis of Absolutes Obtained from Aerial Parts of 11 Aster Species Using Electronic Nose

This study investigated the difference among fragrant patterns of absolutes from aerial parts in 11 Aster species. The fragrant analysis of the absolutes from Aster species was conducted by E-nose equipped with MOS sensors. Among the change values of relative resistance obtained from six MOS sensors, those of Aster yomena and Aster pseudoglehnii were higher than the others in all sensor changes, especially the change values of P10/1, T30/1, and PA/2 were the highest. The analysis data of electronic nose was used for multivariate statistical analysis including principal component analysis (PCA) and discriminant factorial analysis (DFA). According to the PCA analysis, Aster yomena was located in the lower left based on the PCA score plot, and Aster pseudoglehnii was located in the upper middle of the plot, while the other species were located on the right. The DFA analysis showed a pattern similar to the PCA result. These results suggest that the volatile components of Aster yomena and Aster pseudoglehnii differ significantly in quantity and quality from those of other species. These results could be provided as foundational data to develop natural fragrant materials using the genus Aster species.
