Abstract

Aster meyendorfii (Regel & Maack) Voss, which has known as an edible plant, belongs to the Asteraceae family and is distributed in various parts of Korea. Many of the plants included in the genus of Aster have high ornamental value and suitable as materials for ground covering. Therefore, the purpose of our experiment was to develop a propagation protocol for using as a garden plant. As a result of a water absorption test for 72 hours to determine the impermeability of the seed coat, it showed a high absorption rate of 114%. The germination rate was investigated in the environment with 4 temperature regimes of 4, 15/6, 20/10, 25/15℃ in light (12 h photoperiod / day) or in continuous dark. The seeds germinated to 93, 86, 94 and 93% at light conditions, 96, 67, 91, and 89% by week 6 at dark conditions, respectively. After cold stratification for 0, 4, 8, or 12 weeks at 4oC, the seeds germinated to 92, 100, 100, and 98%, respectively, at 20/10oC for 3 weeks of incubation. Seeds treated with GA3 (0, 10, 100, or 1000 mg・L-1), germinated to 90, 91, 89, and 93%, by week 6 at 25/15oC, respectively. As a result of incubation at 15/6°C, 88, 70, 71, and 89% were observed. We found that the embryos were fully developed when dispersed. A. meyendorfii seeds are non-dormant at maturity.
