A Standard Rose Cultivar ‘Sweet Queen’ with Orange Petals for Cut Flowers
Abstract
A standard rose cultivar, ‘Sweet Queen’ was selected for cut flower from the progenies of a cross between ‘Renaissance’ as a mother plant and ‘Penny Lane’ as a pollen plant by rose breeding team of the Gyeonggi-Do Agricultural Research and Extension Services (GARES) in 2018. ‘Renaissance’ and ‘Penny Lane’ was crossed in 2014 and seedlings were produced. After the test of specific characters from 2016 to 2018, ‘Sweet Queen’ was finally selected and named. ‘Sweet Queen’ has a standard type in flower shape, and orange colored (RHS Yellow-Orange Group 21C and 21D) petals. It has 10.5 cm in flower diameter, 4.5 cm in flower length, 37.0 petals per flower. Its vase life was 14 days and, it takes 45 days from pruning to blooming and cut flowers productivity was 164.2 stems/m2 in a year. The length of cut flower was 66.7 cm and fresh weight of cut flower was 64.7 g. We applied plant breeder’s right with the proposed breeder’s denomination ‘Sweet Queen’ on Korea Seed & Variety Service (KSVS) with reference number 8601 on May 21, 2021.
