A Standard Rose Cultivar ‘Red Horse’ with Red Petals for Cut Flowers
Abstract
A standard rose cultivar, ‘Red Horse’ was selected for cut flower from the progenies of a cross between ‘Thyamo’ as a mother plant and ‘Lucky Star’ as a pollen plant by rose breeding team of the Gyeonggi-Do Agricultural Research and Extension Services (GARES) in 2019. ‘Thyamo’ and ‘Lucky Star’ was crossed in 2013 and seedlings were produced. After the test of specific characters from 2015 to 2019, ‘Red Horse’ was finally selected and named. ‘Red Horse’ has a standard type in flower shape, and red colored (RHS Red Group 45B) petals. It has 9.6 cm in flower diameter, 3.7 cm in flower length, 42.6 petals per flower. Its vase life was 12 days and, it takes 45 days from pruning to blooming and cut flowers productivity was 174.8 stems/m2 in a year. The length of cut flower was 72.0 cm and fresh weight of cut flower was 50.6 g. We applied plant breeder’s right with the proposed breeder’s denomination ‘Red Horse’ on Korea Seed & Variety Service (KSVS) with reference number 8872 on February 23, 2022.
