Breeding of a New Kalanchoe Cultivar ‘Coy Pink’ as a Pot Flower
Abstract
The new cultivar of Kalanchoe blossfeldiana ‘Coy Pink’ was developed at Cactus and Succulent Research Institute, Gyeonggi-do A.R.E.S. in 2021. ‘Coy Pink’ was crossed between K. blossfeldiana ‘Tombo’ with vivid orange colored flower and ‘Rudak’ with deep pink colored flower and 128 seedlings were gained in 2018. GK1122-6 had been selected among 2 breeding lines in 2019 and it had tested for different characteristics and stability as new cultivar from 2020 to 2021. It was finally selected and named as ‘Coy Pink’ appling for the protection of new cultivar. This cultivar has large single type flowers with bright and vivid pink (N66B) color. The plant height and width at flowering period reached to 21.2 and 20.4 cm, respectively. ‘Coy Pink’ produces 43.6 flowers per peduncle and 18.5 branches per plant. The diameter of flower is 2.0 cm. To flowering of ‘Coy Pink’, it was taken 57 days after the short day treatment in January. Morphological characteristics can be maintained through vegetative propagation.
